A Busy Summer
Great Things To Come

I hope all of you have had a nice summer and will continue to enjoy what is left of it. Labor Day is right around the corner, and it seems like just yesterday we were holding our fifth annual golf outing at Blue Heron Hills Country Club. This years event was well attended, we had 84 players! The rain managed to hold off for most of the day, with the exception of a little while, and none of us melted! Clarence Houk of Spectrum Food Service and his team where the big winners this year. They each received a $75.00 sweeps money certificate to spend in Blue Heron Hill's golf shop. Second place paid out $50.00 per player, and third paid out $25.00. All in attendance seemed to have a great time. David DiNapoli and his wife Ellen shot some video of each team on the 10th hole as they teed off. We are planning to show this at our next chapter meeting, August 26 at 7:30pm, at the Party house. I would like to thank David, his wife Ellen, Kathy Abeel, for selling Frisbees at the Frisbee toss game all day, and for putting up with all of us, and I would like to thank Chef Don for helping out with the auction.
I would like to give special thanks to my wife Joanne, who helped out selling raffle tickets and keeping all of the money organized at the registration table, and for putting up with me. And last, but certainly not least, Chef Mike Vasile who not only chaired the bike raffle, but strapped it to the back of his truck in the last few weeks before the drawing and sold a bunch more tickets, and enjoyed polishing and having a Harley Davidson even if it was only for a little while. I have a feeling that chef Vasile will have one soon, sorry Rose.
We pulled the ticket for the bike at the end of the golf outing…………
And the winner was………………..not in the room!!!!! As it turns out, the person who won the bike won the ticket as a door prize at the smoker at the Crystal Barn on June 6th. The ticket was purchased by one of our members, Greg Jones, and he donated it to the smoker in hopes that he would sell more tickets. He did, but none of them won! We are planning to do a similar raffle for next year, and will begin planning it right now to keep the ball rolling, so be ready as more information will follow.
I had the privilege of attending the National Convention with Chef Don this year. It was in Washington D.C. The convention was fairly well attended, although I heard that the numbers are down, due to the economy and the high cost of the event I am sure. All of the seminars where good, however overlapped and conflicted with each other and were not offered at different times so that you could take advantage of not having to choose between two or possibly even three that were all going on at the same time. The National COTY competition was great. It was fun to see these guys compete. And while Chef Koughanhouer did not win, I still felt he did the best. The food at this convention was fantastic, even though we did not have a lot of provided meals and had to eat out often, I would go back to the Wardman Park Marriott in a minute, what a great hotel.
As some of you know, our next event will be the COTY dinner in honor of Chef Michael Redmond and will be held at the Party House on Beehan Road. The event will be held on September 21st which is a Sunday night. Invitations will be out and tickets will be available at the August meeting. We need volunteers for food stations and I am sure that the chefs d' cuisine will need volunteers in the kitchen. Welcome back everyone!

See you at the next meeting…….

Chef Sam
